Please Note: Changes to targets from the 2003 CDA Clinical Practice Guidelines to the 2008 edition:

< 6.5% for Type 2 Diabetes with minimal cardiac risk.

If A1c is elevated, adjust post-meal target to 5.0-8.0
A1c in children< 9% under 5 years of age
< 8% 5-12 years of age
< 7% 13-18 years of age
< 8.5% under 6 years of age

< 7% 13-18 years of age
Frequency of A1c Every 3 monthsEvery 3 months if not well controlled.
Every 6 months if stable.
LDL Cholesterol< 2.5 mmol/L< 2.0 mmol/L
